Cross-Country and Trail Running in Dublin

Cross-Country and Trail Running in Dublin

Cross-country running offers a welcome change from predictable road routes. Grass, woodland paths, uneven ground and short climbs ask the body to work in different ways, while the more varied setting can make training feel less repetitive.

Expect a slower pace

Trail and cross-country pace is naturally different from road pace. Mud, roots, hills and turns all affect the effort required, so focus on time spent moving and how the session feels rather than your watch.

Wear the right footwear

For dry parkland, ordinary running shoes may be enough. When routes are muddy or uneven, trail shoes with better grip can make the experience safer and more enjoyable. Check the weather and choose clothing you can layer.

Respect shared spaces

Stay aware of walkers, dogs, cyclists and protected areas. Keep to established paths where possible and leave the route as you found it. A good trail runner is considerate of the people and places around them.
