Getting Started with Running in Dublin

Starting to run is simpler than it often appears. You do not need an ambitious training plan, expensive gear or a particular body type to begin. A pair of comfortable trainers, a safe route and a manageable first session are enough.

Use run-walk intervals

A mixture of short jogs and walking breaks helps your body adapt. For example, alternate one minute of easy jogging with two minutes of walking for 20 to 30 minutes. Repeat this two or three times each week, then gradually increase the running sections.

Choose a practical time and place

Pick a route close enough that the journey is not another obstacle. Many people find a local park or flat residential loop easier than trying to make every run a destination event.

Think beyond pace

In the first few weeks, measure success by showing up. Breathing comfortably, finishing without pain and feeling able to return for the next session are much more valuable than a fast time.
